India Possessed by Rape

Rape has nothing to do with eroticism. It’s a culmination of deep-seated  hostility  against the female gender that is ingrained in our society . Rape is not a sex crime , it’s a chronic disease.

So what is the cause behind this  monstrosity called Rape  ?

It all began with the rape of noblewoman  Lucretia by Roman King Lucius’s  youngest son Sextus  .

One cannot cure a disease if the root of the cause is not clear. Psychologists believe that it’s a mental illness   within the offender followed by a traumatic past. Sociologists believe that it’s an expression of complete gender hostility & domination  where  the  Offender often  gets  complete gratification out of the terror he creates in his prey’s mind.

My personal  belief ?

Rape has got very little to do with sex and more to do with  the tyranny &  audacity with which he commits  such depravity  and believes he can get away with it simply because he can. Mental illness caused by some  tragic past does not justify  the action he/she chose to follow  in order to inflict such  brutality  on someone  emotionally & physically .If raping is your  way of cry for help, then it’s an expression  heaven  wishes you’d have never adopted  in your real senses.

In the aftermath of the recent  blood-curdling  event where a paramedical student  was gang-raped  with such atrocity and barbarity that today her life is literally hanging by a thread , a trepidation  has taken birth in every Indian’s  mind  . Why is our country becoming a Rape Hub ? 
A country named  Mother India , where the triumph of good over evil  , triumph of Maa Durga over Asur is commemorated with such grandiose. A country where respectable steel-like personalities  of Rani Laxmi  Bai , Indira Gandhi , Kiran Bedi  etc.,  existed  & still do ,one expects this place to respect the fairer sex with as much dignity and equality as given to our male counterparts .

India  , a gender driven  male dictated instituition  &  you call her Mother India  & you leave no stone unturned to wreck havoc on her every day.

Alas ! We live in a narcissistic narrow headed community .

In a tech savvy Y2K era where gadgets &  westernization  have  flooded our minds like  tsunami , one simply  cannot care to understand  a simple factor. Rape can’t be cured by punishing the rapist with death penalty or castration. Yes , these are the right  punishments  that would instill fear in their minds but  eventually the reason that rape has come into existence in the first place like a bad organ, is because it took formation from within the society.  A place where Illiteracy, gender discrimination  & prejudices  have been marking their territory  even decades after our independence , a place  where a woman still  has to face  innumerable perverted hurdles thrown by the masochistic men, it’s tragic that the progression is taking place only from the outside.

A country that chose  icons with  so much trust & faith  who have now gone into hiding during this hour of need  & a leader who has taken the oath to remain absolutely & utterly  silent proves that Humanity is not about to repeat this blunder again . A country defined as democratic, seems like the only people who enjoy it are sitting  behind those desks with blindfolds over their eyes  swearing hollow platitudes  to the entire nation.  A country where a true leader like Jawaharlal  Nehru  once  said “ you’d have to walk over my dead body before inflicting violence & injustice “ .

Only  question? How are these rapists any different from serial- killers ? If the Indian law says pre-meditated murder deserves  the utmost severe punishment, should’nt  it be applied to all those  uncontrollable libido maniacs too ? Is our law really that deaf, dumb & blind to believe  that a woman can move past such abomination imposed  upon her ? Is that the reason  that there are no punishments for rapists?

There  are many such Lucretias  in our society , who choose to breath their last because of the many assured in-justified loopholes found in our law . Then there are the ones  who find  the courage to move on  but  are stopped from doing so by our self appointed moral cops. And then there are those who , despite the hell they have been put through  , decide to change the entire façade of the society with their will to live & fight for justice no matter what.

What  Sextus  put  Lucretia through , defined  complete animosity over the female gender . What the entire nation did to Sextus ,  King Lucius & his kingdom  in the aftermath of her rape and suicide  i.e the  immediate  extermination of  the Roman monarchy  & inception of  the Roman Republic  ,was defined as Democracy & Revolution.

Given the major  unexpected yet expected  outburst  of entire India because of the lack of response by our leaders,  seems like history is about to repeat itself in its true sense &  soon . I can feel it in my bones. I can feel  in every ounce of blood running through my veins.
